We Run Ultras
An editorial ultrarunning site that combines long-form writing, coaching content, paid training plans, sample downloads, and a calm publishing workflow.
Visit projectWe Run Ultras is the public home for my ultrarunning work: part editorial publication, part coaching site, built to feel more like a writer's website than a generic fitness landing page.
The app is built with Next.js 14 and a local Markdown/MDX publishing workflow so new essays, legal pages, and product content can be added without turning the site into a CMS. The editorial structure remains simple: homepage, article archive, post pages, gallery, and about page, with a clear coaching path through TrainingPeaks and Substack.
The newer part of the project is the training-plan system. The site now includes a training-plan catalogue, plan landing pages, free sample PDFs, paid PDF assets stored outside public, Stripe Checkout Sessions, verified post-purchase download pages, and protected file delivery for paid plans. The source plans live as versioned content files alongside summaries, samples, and generated PDFs, so the product catalogue can evolve with the writing system rather than sit in a separate store.
The product direction was deliberate. I wanted the experience to feel restrained, readable, and outdoors-rooted rather than loud or sales-heavy, so the design uses a narrow editorial layout, serif-forward typography, warm orange accents in light mode, a forest-green dark theme, and custom tree-based app icons. The result is a personal site that supports both writing and coaching without letting either dilute the other.
